I’ve been an avid dog lover for most of my life, but I just recently discovered the miracle of owning cats. A couple of years ago, my wife and I found a cat in our house. I had been doing some plumbing repairs and the wall panel hadn’t been put back in place yet. I never considered the possibility of something being able to fit through the hole the pipes were running through but that’s the only point of entry that was available. She was a scrawny thing but still pretty. My wife promptly decided we needed to adopt her. After checking around to see if anyone had lost a cat (and secretly hoping an owner wouldn’t show up), we became cat owners, which was a first for me. Jenn named her Majyk, because she appeared almost as if by magic, and life became a world of discoveries as I learned that cats could go places no dog ever dreamed of. After a few months, I finally reached the point of not dying from a heart attack every time Majyk appeared on the washing machine or leaped from the top of the fridge.
Unfortunately, Majyk slipped out of the house while the door was open and we didn’t realize it until a little later. By then, she was nowhere to be found… at least not until the next morning. I wasn’t overly thrilled when I learned that a few furry additions to the family were coming in a few months. The initial plan was simple – kitties are born, kitties get weaned, kitties go away. Ummm… yeah. That plan didn’t last long so now I’ve gone from never having owned a cat to owning five of them. Know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way. See that pic up above? That’s how my day started. Cats (and especially kittens) can be frustrating at times because they’re going to do what they’re going to do and the dog owner in me took a while to learn that ‘Sit’ and ‘Stay’ don’t work very well on the feline species. However, the antics they get into throughout the day never cease to put a smile on my face and the good times are well worth the not so good.
What does any of this have to do with writing? Nothing; just felt like rambling and sharing one of my new joys in life. However, I guess I could keep things on point by mentioning that Dead Man Walking is still available for free at Amazon until midnight tonight, and Little Demons is also free until midnight at Smashwords when you use coupon code MQ66M.
Hope you have a good weekend 🙂
